Wolfgang Hoefer receives the 2022 Microwave Career Award of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society
Wolfgang Hoefer is the recipient of the prestigious Microwave Career Award of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society. This is the highest honor bestowed by the IEEE MTT-Society. The citation reads: “For a career of leadership, meritorious achievement, creativity and outstanding contributions in the field of microwave theory and techniques”. The award has been presented at the Awards Banquet of the IEEE MTT-International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in Denver, CO, USA, on June 22, 2022. For more information follow these links:

Special Session at the 2021 IEEE AP-S/URSI Symposium in Singapore at the Occasion of Wolfgang Hoefer's 80th Birthday
A Special Session titled “Towards a Unified View of Computational Electromagnetics (With a Retrospective at the Occasion of Prof. Hoefer's 80th Birthday)” was held during the 2021 IEEE AP-S/URSI Symposium in Singapore, 4-10 Dec. 2021. Organized by Profs. Chao-Fu Wang (NUS) and Zhizhang Chen (Dalhousie U.), the session TU-SP-4A featured presentations by distinguished international colleagues and former associates of Wolfgang Hoefer, who also contributed a paper titled “Unity and Diversity in Computational Electromagnetics - A Retrospective.”

Wolfgang Hoefer elevated to Fellow of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES)
Wolfgang Hoefer has been elevated to to the rank of Fellow of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) “For exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions in Applied Computational Electromagnetics”. Wolfgang Hoefer has been invited to present a lecture at a workshop on "Theories and Numerics of Inverse Problems" organized by Prof. Xudong Chen and colleagues at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences of the National University of Singapore. The topic of his lecture was “Time Reversal Features and Applications of Space-Time Discrete Electromagnetic Models”. Wolfgang Hoefer addresses the IEEE Poland Section AP/MTT/AES Joint Chapter at Warsaw University of Technology
Wolfgang Hoefer visited Warsaw in October 2015 with his spouse Diana to attend the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, a Polish national treasure which is held every five years and is arguably the world's most prestigious and exciting classical piano competition. During their stay in the Polish capital, Wolfgang Hoefer presented an invited seminar on “Computational time reversal - a frontier in electromagnetics research” to the members of the IEEE AP/MTT/AES Joint Chapter on Oct. 21, 2015 at the Institute of Radioelectronics, Warsaw University of Technology.

Wolfgang Hoefer is an invited Plenary Keynote Speaker at the 2014 NEMO Conference at the University of Pavia, Italy
Wolfgang Hoefer is invited to present a plenary lecture at the inaugural IEEE International Conference on Numerical Electromagnetic Modeling and Optimization for RF, microwave, and terahertz applications (NEMO 2014), held at the University of Pavia, Italy, from May 14-16, 2014. The topic of his keynote lecture was “Computational Time Reversal - A Frontier in Electromagnetics”. The event took place on the historic premises where Alessandro Volta held the chair of experimental physics from 1778 to 1819. The unit of the electric potential has been named the "Volt" in his honor.

Wolfgang Hoefer is the recipient of the 2012 Most Inspiring Mentor Award sponsored by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) of Singapore. The award recognizes “inspirational and dedicated scientists who have played fundamental roles in nurturing other scientists or scholars”. Wolfgang Hoefer is the recipient of the prestigious Microwave Pioneer Award from the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society. Wolfgang Hoefer receives the Andrew G.L. McNaughton Award and Gold Medal from IEEE Canada.
Wolfgang Hoefer is the recipient of the Andrew G.L. McNaughton Award and Gold Medal from the IEEE Canada (Region 7). It is the highest achievement award bestowed by IEEE Canada on engineers in recognition of exemplary contributions to the engineering profession. The citation reads: “For pioneering research in microwave engineering, computational electromagnetics and working with industry to develop practical time domain simulators.” The Award and Gold Medal were presented at the Awards Banquet of the CCECE Conference, which was held in St. Johns, NL, Canada, on May 4, 2009. Wolfgang Hoefer is inducted into the German Academy of Science and Engineering
Wolfgang Hoefer has been selected to join the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) “In recognition of his scientific achievements”. The induction into the Academy took place in Berlin on 21 October 2008, followed by a festive gala event in the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt. Ms. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the German Republic, was the Guest of Honor; she addressed the Members of the Academy in a keynote speech, acknowledging their important advisory role in matters of innovation and technology policy. Wolfgang Hoefer receives a Honorary Doctorate from the Technical University of Munich
The Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München, TUM) has bestowed a honorary doctorate in engineering (Dr.-Ing. e.h.) on Wolfgang Hoefer. The bestowal took place on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Theresianum, Technische Universität München. A two-day symposium with several social events was held following the academic ceremony. The citation on the honorary doctoral certificate reads: “For Extraordinary Achievements in the Theory of Electromagnetic Fields, especially the Development of Modern Numerical Methods for the Modeling of Electromagnetic Fields”.
